About Massage Therapy

At The Spa Scottsdale, we offer four types of massages:

Swedish Massage: It is the most commonly offered massage technique and is perfect for people who are new to massage, have a lot of tension, and are sensitive to touch. The therapist uses firm or light pressure on the muscles to relieve tension and increase blood flow and flexibility.

Hot Stone Massage: Similar to a Swedish massage, only the therapist applies hot stones to the muscles in addition to their hands.

Deep Tissue Massage: Deep tissue massage uses a firm pressure. It’s a good option for people with chronic pain or muscle problems. During the massage, the therapist will use slow strokes and deep finger pressure to relieve tension from the deepest layers of your muscles and connective tissues.

Sports Massage: It is ideal for people who are prone to sports injuries. A sports massage can be done as a full-body massage or the therapist might work on the parts that need more attention.

  • What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Massage therapy has many amazing benefits, both mental and physical. Research shows that massage therapy is effective in managing the following disorders:

    • Chronic lower back pain
    • Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)
    • Anxiety
    • Stress
    • Soft tissue injuries
    • High blood pressure
    • Insomnia
    • PTSD
    • Chronic diseases
    • Life-threatening illnesses such as cancer

Some of the physical benefits of massage therapy include: reduced muscle tension, better posture, lower blood pressure, improved circulation, stimulation of the lymphatic system, reduction of stress hormones (cortisol), relaxation, increased joint mobility and flexibility, improved recovery of soft tissue injuries, strengthened immune system, heightened mental alertness, and reduced anxiety and depression.

  • What are the risks and side effects of massage therapy?

Massage therapy has very few serious risks as long as it is performed by a properly trained therapist and appropriate cautions are followed. The number of serious injuries is very small.

You may feel some temporary soreness, pain, or bruising in the muscles, but that is normal and goes away within a day or two. Some people might develop a sensitivity or allergy to massage oils, but it is very rare.

It is advised to not get a massage if you have a bleeding disorder, have a low platelet count, take blood thinners, or have open wounds, fractures, weakened bones (osteoporosis), or skin infections.

  • Which form of massage therapy is highly recommended by your spa?

The two most popular massages among our clients are the deep tissue massage in Scottsdale, AZ, and hot stone massage in Scottsdale. We highly recommend choosing either of these two if you are a person who suffers from chronic muscle pain. Our customers usually see progressing results within just a few sessions.

Another great service we offer at our spa is Reiki--a Japanese form of alternative medicine also known as energy healing. It involves the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner’s palms to the client. Moreover, you can also opt for our lymphatic massage in Scottsdale, AZ.
